Sermon Reflections from August 26

Was your heart stirred up by our guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Paul Taylor?  Mine was!  How encouraging it was to get a glimpse of how the Lord is at work around the world.  His message brought some questions to mind that we may consider this week as we seek to apply what we discovered on Sunday and from the Missions Conference this past weekend.

  • You are the bride of Christ.  In what ways to you feel his love?
  • Jesus is building his church, partly on you!  Do you see yourself as one of his “rocks?”  How might he want to use you to build up his church?
  • What things have you seen what stories have you heard to remind you that God is building his church?  Look for them.  Be encouraged by them.

Sermon Reflections from August 19

How should we respond to this week’s sermon?  How has Tom’s sermon on worship affected our hearts and our attitude toward worship?  Let’s consider these questions as we reflect and seek to apply this message to our lives.

  • How might we be too casual in our approach to God in worship?  In what ways do we not ascribe to the Lord the proper reverence?
  • What does it mean to you to be a child of God with firstborn status?  How does this affect your worship?
  • What priority do you set on worshiping the Lord?  What things in your life do you allow to get into the way of worship?

Sermon Reflections for Sunday, August 12

Today we heard an important message from Pastor Tom regarding the transforming power of the Word of God.  This sermon should leave us with many questions to consider as we seek to apply this truth to our lives.  Here are a few questions we should all ask ourselves this week.

  • Who do we know that we might invite to study the Bible with us?  Do they have a Bible of their own?
  • We all know we should spend more time in Bible study, but what are some ways we could do this?  Tom suggested that we consider personal study (devotions, memorizing, meditation), group Bible studies, Sunday school classes, and teaching.
  • In what ways do you need reproof, rebuke, or exhortation?  In what ways has the Word of God preached caused you to recognize your need to change?

Sermon Reflections for Sunday July 29

As our sermon series on 1 Corinthians concluded, Pastor Dave guided us in his sermon to consider some questions as we reflect this week.  Let us consider these in light of today’s sermon:

  • Are you standing firm in you faith?  How are you dealing with you sin and temptation?
  • Do you look forward to and live for Christ’s return?  Are you ready for Jesus to come?
  • How often do you remind yourself of the simple truths of the gospel?  How often do you share that grace and love with others?

Sermon reflections for Sunday July 22

We heard a good word about ministry today from an unexpected text, a passage about Paul’s travel plans of all things.  And yet, as Mike said, even these seemingly insignificant passages carry with them a wealth of significance for our lives.  Here are some questions to consider as we reflect on these biblical truths.

  • What is your plan for ministry?  It’s probably not big enough!
  • Where can you go next with your ministry?
  • How can you provide support for others in their ministries?
  • Are you ready for the opposition that will come with a successful ministry?

Sermon Reflections for Sunday, July 15

Here are our sermon reflection questions for Tom’s sermon this week on 1 Corinthians 16:1-4 titled “Made Rich, We Enrich”:

  • In what way has the Lord made you rich?  Has he entrusted you with an abundance of money, or some other sort of treasure or talent?
  • How can you share your riches with the body of Christ?  What person or organization do you know that would be blessed by your gift?
  • Do you trust the Lord with your riches?
  • Are you storing up your treasures in heaven or elsewhere?

Let us consider these questions as we ask the Lord for his Word to penetrate our hearts.

Sermon Reflections for Sunday, June 17

Admittedly, it is a bit easier to come up with sermon reflection questions when you’re reflecting on your own sermon.  The following questions are some of the main application questions that I thought were appropriate for our text and sermon yesterday.

  • In what way have you been distracted or distracting in our corporate worship service?  How can those distractions be minimized?
  • What are your spiritual gifts?  If you know what they are, are you currently sharing them with the church?  In what ways could you be serving the church that you currently are not?
  • What is one area of life in which you should be submitting, but you aren’t?  Why is it so difficult for you to submit?

There are a lot more questions I would love to ask, but I think these are the most important.  These are the questions that I’ll be asking myself as I try to let the Word of God soak into my heart this week.
